STRANDED IN A SEASON OF GRIEF?

welcome to the desert

In this space, I invite you to grieve, heal and grow alongside myself and others who understand. If you’re ready to discover a deeper connection to yourself, to the world around you and to your faith, you’re in the right place.

“THE LORD IS NEAR TO THE BROKENHEARTED AND SAVES THE CRUSHED IN SPIRIT.”

Psalm 34:18

hi, I’m Katlyn.

In 2023, my husband Riley died suddenly in a car accident. In my early days as a widow, a friend introduced me to the desert rose found in Uganda, Africa. This plant's thick, succulent stem stores precious water, enabling it to endure long periods of drought. This resilient beauty stands as a testament to nature's ability to thrive even in the most unforgiving environments.

Throughout my grieving journey, the desert rose has become a symbol of hope and perseverance. Despite feeling abandoned, isolated, and almost left for dead in my emotional desert, I have found the strength to bloom again, thanks to the comfort I find in Jesus.

Although I live in the heart of a cornfield, the desert holds a special place in my heart, reminding me of resilience and growth in challenging times. It reminds me of the beauty that can arise from the most barren places, and teaches me that even in the depths of my sorrow, there is a reservoir of strength within me, waiting to be tapped.

I often share the story of the desert rose with others who are grieving, hoping it will inspire them as it has inspired me. It is a testament to the human spirit's capacity to endure and flourish, even in the most trying circumstances. And through this shared symbol, we can find connection and solace, knowing we are not alone in our struggles.
